Completion of ISS System Scanner transition to Assuria

Introduction

Since Internet Security Systems Inc. (ISS) announced the transition of ISS System Scanner to Assuria Limited in July 2005 Assuria and ISS have been working closely together on a program to achieve the seamless transition of ISS System Scanner customers to Assuria and Assuria Auditor.

The final step of the transition program, a new version of the X-Press Update software (XPressUpdate.exe) is now available. This completes the transition to Assuria which has been achieved without any disruption to existing System Scanner users.

Please note that in future Assuria will refer to X-Press Updates as AutoUpdates since “X-PressUpdate” is an ISS Trademark.

This Assuria Bulletin announces the availability of a new X-Press Update.exe from the ISS XPU download center.

Transition to Assuria

From the 1^st January 2007 Assuria will be generating all Assuria Auditor Licence keys.  Existing ISS WOS generated Licence keys will continue to be fully supported by Assuria.

As part of the underlying integrity and security within Assuria Auditor all executable code, security checks and policies are digitally signed by Assuria / ISS.

Assuria has now updated all the Assuria Auditor components including the Console, Web-interface (VISTA) and Agents to fully validate the signatures of executable code, security checks and policy signed by Assuria in addition to those signed by ISS.

Customers do not need to take any extra or special action with respect to Licence keys or code, policy and check signing.

The final step

The final step of the transition process is to update the X-PressUpdate.exe - the XPU download / installation program. 

A new version of the XPressUpdate.exe is now available after extensive testing by Assuria. 

Future download location of updates

As a result of this final step Assuria will no longer post updates via ISS onto the ISS web site / download centre.

Assuria will post AutoUpdates to https://www.assuriaonline.com/auditorupdates the new version of the update program will point to this URL by default.

Users who manually download Updates for local staging will be able to obtain the Updates from AssuriaOnline – please see below.

Assuria customers can register with AssuriaOnline, the online resource centre. 

AssuriaOnline includes the Assuria Download Centre which includes software and AutoUpdates, Forum and Support Knowledge base.

Assuria software is subject to export control regulations and users must therefore register with AssuriaOnline before downloading software or AutoUpdates.

Customer action to complete
X-PressUpdate.exe transition.

The Users view of this final transition step will be:

- Users will receive notification of the availability of a new X-Press Update.exe via an Assuria Bulletin (this Bulletin 26).

- Users will initiate XPressUpdate.exe in the normal way to obtain the new XPU and will receive a message to say "A new version of XPressUpdate.exe is available, do you wish to download this new version".

 - Users should respond “Yes”. The new version of XPressUpdate.exe will be downloaded and will then replace the current ISS version of X-Press Update.exe and restart the new Assuria version.

-         The new XPressUpdate.exe (Assuria AutoUpdate) program will automatically 'point at' the Assuria AutoUpdate Web site and will ‘search for’ and download the latest XPU from the Assuria download area. Note that XPUs / X-Press Updates are to be called AutoUpdates by Assuria.

 -   Users will install the Assuria AutoUpdates onto their Console with no change in normal process.

- Subsequent AutoUpdates will be downloaded from the Assuria AutoUpdate area by the Assuria version of XPressUpdate.exe and will require no further or special action by Users.
